FAQs for the Mental Push Plan

How much time is this going to require?

We bet you’re busy these days! Since this is a self-guided program, you can take a little or as long as you’d like. But we estimate that you’ll spend around an hour on each workbook. We recommend taking 1-2 weeks between each workbook to give yourself time to practice what you’ve learned (that’s 6ish weeks total), and we’ll make it super easy for you by giving you checklists and a calendar to track your progress!

I’m not looking to have an unmedicated birth or I have a scheduled c-section. Will this do anything for me?

No matter your birth preferences or ultimate method of birthing, bringing a baby into this world is intense! If you suspect you might feel anxious, nervous, scared, uncomfortable or any other unpleasant emotion during the process (and no doubt you will feel all of this as a parent!), this program is for you.

I’m taking a childbirth class. Is this going to be repetitive to what I learn there?

Great! Childbirth classes teach an understanding of the birth process and offer different techniques to manage pain during labor. The Mental Push Plan builds on all of this info, but teaches you specific tools based on the research of sport psychology to guide your mind towards a state of empowerment and away from negative or unuseful thoughts (which can also help manage pain!).

Do I have to be a former athlete to really understand all these mental tools?

Nope. We do use a lot of sport puns, but our plan is for everyone. Because we believe anyone can flex their mental muscles and develop mental toughness. And giving birth makes you an athlete anyway.

How fast can I expect to see results?

Just like running a marathon or trying to nail crow pose, what you put in is what you’ll get out. If you start to integrate your Mental Push Plan tools into your everyday life, you’ll be amazed at how quickly it becomes natural to you. And the more ingrained it is, the more easily it will come to you during the intensity of labor.

This isn’t my first rodeo. What does this plan offer for delivering your second, third, fourth… baby?

Congrats, mama! While you might know what to expect in the stages of labor, there will likely be other aspects of this birth journey that are totally new to you. Or you may be hoping (or dreading) that this time will be the same as the last. The Mental Push Plan is meant to give you tools to deal with whatever this birth has in store for you.
